My best advice for those making a family portrait is to bring the kids in their most comfortable clothes and don’t brush their hair. Let them be messy and free. In fact, don’t even tell them what we’re up to. I see many families arrive in a state of terror because nobody is behaving and it takes some time for everyone to relax. Running, jumping, bouncing and tossing them up in the air seems to help. If necessary, bribery with ice cream can work too.
